In Wuzhen, I rediscovered time, felt the constraints of time, and contemplated the significance of time on my life. This was the initial thought when the project began, but as contemplation and experiences progressed, I realized that the relationship between humans and time is not as simple as it seems:

Planning is the past's shackles on the future, and the weight of time accumulates in every extremity of the body. However, simultaneously, plans naturally envelop "tomorrow" in the fabric of life.

Establishing myself over a long period was initially a way of survival. At first, it was setting up the "correct" self to pursue, and later it became establishing the "incorrect" self to avoid. However, regardless of which establishment, it sliced a portion within myself, defining and measuring the origin that was originally integral. Gradually, I discarded the desire to define anything and started to embrace and experience everything.

New contradictions inevitably arose. During my stay in Wuzhen, I found myself in an environment so different from the past. My time used to be a simple loop constructed by the number five in the schedule, three daily deliveries of takeout, and the annoying ringtone of my phone. Here, everything transformed into the anticipation of diligent spiders weaving webs every day, morning sunlight penetrating through the vegetation, turning into shadows dancing in the corridor during sunny days, raindrops hanging from eaves during rainy times, and the damp footprints weaving through the courtyard back into the house.

Time was no longer the prodding of numbers but a sensory experience flowing through the body. Here, the habitual cycle of planning and completing plans became an alien element. Urban time is defined by clocks, but here, time is undefined. I sensed the passage of time through experiencing nature and my body. Sometimes it was the gradual drip of raindrops, and other times, it was the visit of white butterflies to daisies. I checked the screen showing the digits that once represented time less frequently.

Past plans extending into the present seemed out of place, becoming the sole reason for me to lower my head. With the diminishing sensitivity to numbers, the frequency of checking my phone to confirm them increased, and time turned into a tool of the past restricting the present. I gradually realized that I overly relied on planning to exist in the future, attempting to extend my existence from now to the future. Did Socrates also die in such a way? Dying in the anticipation of the future based on defining the future in the past.

So, I began to strip away the shackles of time day by day, presenting the naked constraints of time in front of me. All of this concluded when I wrote four thousand and seventy-one words on WPS, and the final presentation on the whiteboard froze time in the space of the past.

Perhaps the discomfort brought by this definition of time will gradually dissipate after returning to the city, burying the struggles and pains of this moment in time. Yet, currently, I still cannot restrain myself from, to some extent, extending my present perceivable existence to the future through planning.

By fulfilling past agreements and establishing new ones for the future, I make myself believe in the continuity of life in the world through this method.

Postscript: During a study session, Yinan asked me how I view my own death. There will inevitably be a moment in the future when everything halts, and at that moment, how will plans extend into the future? My current response is that constructing behavior for the future through planning is an extension of the present towards framing the future. The imagination of my own death itself is a framing of the future, so this imagination itself does not exist in the present.
